lesley munro biography
After working in Scottish Education for many years, Lesley now lives and works in South Norfolk, and in 2016 she was the winner of Norfolk magazine Landscape Artist of the year. Following on from this, in 2020 she was awarded the Royal Society of Watercolours Presidents award, at the SEAW Selected Exhibition with her painting ‘Beach Channels and Distant Pines’. Lesley is an associate member of the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists and the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists.
Lesley produces paintings mainly in acrylic and mixed media, and is much influenced by her immediate environment; the hedgerows, winding lanes and gentle rolling landscape around her. She is also magnetically drawn to the constantly changing facets of the ocean of East Anglia and beyond, seeking to capture the ever changing moods and patterns that the shifting sands and coastlines create.
In its essence, composition and the subject is all important, and she spends a large amount of time on preparatory sketches before embarking on full scale works. Although the forms within her compositions are highly stylised, her work remains recognisable, her paintings aiming to reflect nature’s values, contrasts and harmonies.
Lesley has exhibited around the UK, and her work has been used in magazines and can be found in corporate, public and private collections around the world.
